Autumn

“The soft muted colours of Autumn remind us of the sweet melancholy of the season. So to Nature’s palette I have added the colour blue”
The wild geese are leaving
Ever South they fly
Skeined in vee formation
Through cooling autumn skies
Loud in ululation
Plaintive is their cry
Follow one another
On whispered wings and sighs
CHORUS:
And I have come to know what is true
The colour of autumn is blue
The journey long together
Silver by her side
Through the stormy oceans
And on the ripping tide
Drawn by scented rivers
To the spawning grounds
On salmon redds and gravel beds
In ecstasy they drown
CHORUS:
And I have come to know what is true
The colour of autumn is blue
BRIDGE:
Blue like the green leaves
Yellowed into brown
Soft as falling tears
Gentle on the ground
Blue like the green leaves
Cinnamon and Gold
Withered into autumn
Wintered into old
The dying days of summer
Time for moving on
Swallows and the Martins
Symphonied in song
Lined abreast for leaving
Africa they’re bound
And empty skies will echo
The silence of their sound
CHORUS:
And I have come to know what is true
The colour of autumn is blue
